How can I save on my electric bill?

Keeping your filter, condenser coils, and regular yearly maintenance by certified professional.

What is your service area?

All of Salado, of course, including rural areas outside Salado. We also have many customers that were with us before our move to Salado. We continue to service them.

How do I know if I need refrigerant?

If the system is not cooling as well as it used to, a spike in electric bill, and if the unit seems to be freezing up.

What's the difference between Freon (R-22) and Puron (R-410A)?

Ruud AC units uss R-410A

For several decades, Freon was the default refrigerant used to power air conditioners and heat pumps. Little thought was given to whether it had a negative effect on the environment.

In the early part of the 1990s, scientists discovered that Freon had a direct impact on the earth's ozone layer. Its widespread use caused depletion to the ozone layer to such a degree that the Environmental Protection Agency wrote legislation phasing out its use. HVAC companies were given until January 1, 2010 to begin using Puron instead. Puron is a synthetic substitute that provides the same heating or cooling effect without the environmental hazard.

Air conditioners and heat pumps operating on Puron tend to last longer, run quieter and be less expensive to maintain. Since there are still HVAC systems in circulation that operate on Freon, the EPA has extended its use until January 1, 2020. After that date, it will impose a complete ban on the importation, sale or use of Freon in the United States. If you have an older HVAC system in your home, we at Advance HVAC recommend that you consider replacing it as soon as possible. Otherwise, HVAC companies will not have the proper refrigerant gas to repair it in the years to come.

My air conditioner is blowing, but not blowing cold. What should I do?

This most likely means that your condenser is in distress. Electrical issue, low on refrigerant, a float switch issue. Please call a licensed professional to properly diagnose the problem.

How often should I change my filter?

Every 30 days. There is NO such thing as a 90 day filter, please don't fall for the scam.

What maintenance should I be doing to my HVAC system?

Changing your filters every 30 days, adding a 1/4 cup of bleach to your drain every time you change your filter, turning off your HVAC system while mowing around your outdoor condenser, and rinsing off your condenser coil every 30 days are what you as a home-owner can do to avoid a day in the heat.

How often should I have my system checked?

Here at Advance HVAC, we recommend that you have a yearly inspection done on both the Air Conditioning and Heating parts of your system.

Having your Air Conditioner checked yearly will lower your electric bill, extend the life of your system, and keep you cool in the heat of the summer.

Having your Furnace/Heat Pump checked yearly will ensure that your Gas Furnace is safe to operate, and free of Carbon Monoxide leaks.

How did you get the name Air Conditioner Guy?

I give my Uncle Frank credit for this. He was my mentor and taught me all about HVAC systems since I was a child. I grew up knowing I would be an Air Condiritoner Guy.
